An Act of the Scottish Parliament restores episcopacy in Scotland, which had been abandoned almost fifty years earlier by John Knox and his fellow reformers in the Scottish Reformation. The same parliamentary session also passes severe laws against Roman Catholics, and bans Presbyterian ministers.
