Nikolaus Krell, former Chancellor of Saxony, is executed after a six-year trial. As Chancellor, he had pursued pro-Calvinist policies and a foreign policy that turned away from loyalty to the Habsburgs, instead acting in concert with John Casimir, Henry IV of France and Elizabeth I of England. These unpopular policies, along with his autocratic methods, had earned him the unpopularity that had led to his trial.
