The English Parliament is dissolved. It has voted to levy further taxation for the war against Spain, and passed an Act to punish vagabonds and establish workhouses, which was to last until the Poor Law of 1834. Parliament extracts a promise from Queen Elizabeth that she will reform the system of monopolies.
