The Cologne War ends in the defeat of Gebhard, Archbishop of Cologne. He had been deposed by Pope Gregory XIII in 1583 in response to his conversion to Calvinism, and fought to retain his archbishopric ever since. Now he retires to Strasbourg, giving up his struggle with the Papacy.
