Archduke Maximilian, fighting to defend his election to the throne of Poland, is defeated by the Polish Grand Chancellor in Silesia and imprisoned by him. He has to be ransomed by his brother, Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II, who is forced to give up the territoriy of Zips (present-day Spiš) to Poland.
