In England, Dr William Parry MP is executed for high treason, on the grounds of having conspired to murder Queen Elizabeth. He had travelled abroad in the past three years, and in Paris had become close to two agents of Mary Queen of Scots, Charles Paget and Thomas Morgan. He came up with various plans to assassinate the Queen, including riding alongside her carriage and shooting at her, and concealing a knife in his sleeve during a private audience with her, but had lost his nerve on each occasion.
