Rudolf II summons the Diet of the Holy Roman Empire to raise money for repairing forts on the frontier with the Ottoman Empire. Those hostile to the Protestant Joachim Frederick of Brandenburg contest his claim to the bishopric of Magdeburg, but are ultimately quashed. Another polemical topic for discussion is the city of Aachen, where Protestants have recently taken control of the city government.
