Two Jesuit priests, Robert Parsons and Edmund Campion, land in England to begin missionary work. Both men had been fairly eminent members of the English establishment, both holding positions as fellows of Oxford colleges. Both, however, were strongly drawn back to the Catholic church, and Campion attended William Allen's Jesuit college at Douai. These men denied that their work of conversion could be considered as treason against Queen Elizabeth.
