Henry of Navarre becomes recognised as head of the Huguenot Party. Married to Marguerite de Valois, sister of the King of France, Henry had been forced to convert to Catholicism, but escaped from the royal court in 1576 and recanted this decision, returning to the Calvinist faith of his mother.
