Matthew Parker is consecrated Archbishop of Canterbury, a post which he holds until his death in 1575. He is a moderate Protestant, chosen by Elizabeth as an appropriately uncontentious candidate, but during his time in office, he nonetheless faces difficulties from ecclesiastical reformers and puritans, especially over the issue of vestments.
