Lady Jane Grey is executed. With a claim to the throne of England through her grandmother, who was younger sister to Henry VIII, she had been named in Edward VI's Will as his successor; however, on his death, Mary Tudor's supporters had proved more powerful. Lady Jane Grey was to gain a romantic posthumous reputation as England's Nine Days' Queen.
