Protector Somerset, who has run the government of England for the child-king Edward VI since the death of Henry VIII two years earlier, falls from power. On 12th, he is sent to the Tower by John Dudley, Earl of Warwick, and Thomas Wriothesley, Earl of Southampton. Warwick becomes the new head of government: although he does not accept the title of Lord Protector, he concentrates offices and power in his hands, and on 28th takes the office of Lord Admiral.
