The English Parliament is forced to vote a benevolence of 20d. in the pound on lands, and of 10d. in the pound on goods, to finance the war with Scotland. It dissolves colleges, chantries and hospitals, legacies of the religious culture of the Catholic Church, whose possessions pass to the Crown.
