A French fleet, under the leadership of Admiral d'Annebault, enters the Solent, encroaching on English territory. England's finest warship, the Mary Rose, based at Portsmouth, attempts to retaliate but heels over in the harbour and sinks. The wreck is to remain there for the next 450 years, until it was raised from the seabed for examination in 1982.
