Scottish nobleman Matthew, Earl of Lennox, signs a secret treaty with with English at Carlisle. By its terms, Henry VIII promises to appoint him Governor of Scotland in the event of a Scottish defeat in the ongoing conflict, and agrees to a marriage between Lennox and Lady Margaret Douglas, Henry's niece. The resultant wedding takes place the following June.
