Through the mediation of Queen Eleanor of France, Holy Roman Emperor Charles V meets with Francis I at Aigues Mortes in southern Frane. Here they discuss ways to quash the Protestant threat, and a potential crusade against the Turks. The resultant reconciliation of Hapsburg and Valois leaves England diplomatically isolated, so, through his minister Thomas Cromwell, Henry VIII negotiates for an alliance with the German Protestant princes.
