The Thirty-Nine .Articles Agreed upon by the Archbishops and Bishops . and the Whole Clergy. constituted the doctrinal and political position of the reformed Church of England. They were finally agreed in convocations held in 1571 but originally formulated in 1562 during the early years of the reign of Elizabeth I, and part of her attempt to lay to rest the potential schisms that Mary.s reign had openend up. The articles covered:

1-5: the doctrine of the Holy Trinity (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost), Christ crucifixion, going down in Hell, and his resurrection.

6-8: the status of scripture, the Old and New Testaments and the Creeds

9-18: original sin, free will, justification by works, …
