An expedition against the Turks is undertaken by Charles V: he leaves Barcelona to join his military commander Andrea Doria, supported by forces from the Papacy and the Italian states. Their combined armies land at Carthage in North Africa, defeat the famed Ottoman captain Barbarossa, and rescue Christian slaves.
