Bernard Rothmann, reforming divine, invites Dutch Anabaptists to come to his home city of Münster in Westphalia, the site of strife between Catholic and Protestant. Earlier the Lutherans, including Rothmann, were expelled from the city by the ruling Catholics, but he returned, and by 1533 had built up such a strong base of support on the strength of his preaching that the Reforming party gained a majority on the city council and took control of the churches.
