Francisco Pizarro leads an expedition from the Spanish base in Panama, with the aim of conquering Peru. Over the following two years, this aim was eventually achieved. The first triumph over the native people comes when, on 16th November, Pizarro takes the emperor, the Inca Atahualpa, prisoner.
