In an attempt to force Pope Clement VII to come to a favourable conclusion in his divorce suit, Henry VIII confiscates all annates (also known as the first fruits of benefices) usually passed to the papacy from the English Church. In January, Parliament had passed an Act which drastically cut down the size of these payments; now they are withdrawn completely.
