In Switzerland, the second civil war of religion is ended by the Peace of Kappel. This allows each canton and each district to have the right to worship as they choose. The result of this peace settlement is that the Swiss Confederation becomes divided into Protestant areas (notably Zurich, Berne, Geneva and Basle) and Catholic ones (notably Lucerne, Zug and Freiburg).
