Louis XII of France breaks his alliance with Burgundy. His daughter Princess Claude had previously been betrothed to Philip of Burgundy's son Charles (the future Holy Roman Emperor), but the States-General of France became hostile to this marriage, since it would involve granting Charles the Duchies of Brittany and Burgundy, leaving France diminished in the process. Instead, Claude is now betrothed to her French cousin Francis of Angouleme, who was to become Francis I of France.
