Louis XII of France marries Anne, Duchess of Brittany, widow of Charles VIII. To do so, he had had to obtain a divorce from his childless wife Jeanne. This new marriage was sought to provide him with heirs and to allow him to integrate the Duchy of Brittany with the French crown.
