Philip the Handsome, Duke of Burgundy and son of the Emperor Maximilian I, marries Juana, daughter of Ferdinand and Isabella and heiress of Spain. This marriage united the lands of Burgundy and Spain, and in Philip I Spain gained its first Hapsburg monarch.
