Casimir IV of Poland had ruled both the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, having been pushed into the role as a boy of 13, and the lands of Poland, having succeeded his brother Wladyslaw III in 1447. At his death, one son John Albert succeeded as King of Poland (-1501) while another, Alexander, became ruler of Lithuania (-1506).
