The Boxer rebellion was an uprising of the Chinese anti-foreign, anti Christian movement. In June 1900 Boxer fighters besieged the foreign embassies of Beijing. 20, 000 troops from the Eight-Nation Alliance eventually came to the aid of the diplomats, soldiers, foreign civilians and Chinese Christians trapped in the Legation Quarter.
