Nitti succeeded wartime prime minister Vittorio Emanuele Orlando, and faced enormous political and economic crises from the moment he took office. A year later his government would be undermined by strikes, particularly those caused by Mussolini's Fascist Party, and he would resign on June 9th 1920.
