Sir Martin Frobisher (c. 1535-1594) was an English navigator who
made three voyages to the New World to look for the Northwest
Passage as a trade route to India and China. He reached Baffin
Island on August 18, 1576, where the expedition met some of the
local Inuit natives. All three expeditions landed in northeastern
Canada.
