Iconoclastic riots in the Netherlands by fanatical Calvinists in Hondschoote, Valenciennes, Amsterdam and (16th-17th) Antwerp; the Regent Margaret abolishes the Inquisition. This was a localised forerunner of the country-wide revolt that lasted from 1579-1648 when the Netherlands succeeded in overthrowing Hapsburg rule.
