Nurul Momen (1908-1990) was a dynamic man who worked against orthodoxy, moving effortlessly through various fields of knowledge and activities – he was a poet, dramatist, essayist, sportsman, football coach, actor, lawyer, and teacher. From an early age he read books from the family library and at eleven years old he began his literary career with the poem “Shondhya” [Evening], following the versification of Rabindranath Tagore’s “Shonar Tori” [The Golden Boat] (1894). Momen’s poem was published in a famous literary magazine, Dhrubo Tara [The Pole Star] in 1919.
