George Raymond Richard Martin (commonly known as George R.R. Martin) is an American writer and television producer. He is best known for his ongoing epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire (1996-present) which has been adapted into HBO’s television series Game of Thrones (2011-2019).

Martin was born September 20, 1948 in Bayonne, New Jersey to longshoreman Raymond Collins Martin and Margaret Brady Martin. From a young age, Martin was interested in science fiction and fantasy, writing monster stories for his childhood friends and developing a keen interest in comics.
