Context

The daughter of a Hungarian patriot exiled in Italy for his insurgent activities, Stefania identified with her father’s bravery and boldness. She was consistently involved in politics and ready to give her opinions and take action to support her ideas.

The information about Stefania Türr’s life is not easily verifiable. She was born in 1885, the illegitimate daughter of Stefano Türr, a Hungarian patriot and Garibaldi’s follower in the Italian Risorgimento military expeditions. There is no certainty with regard to her place of birth: several scholars, like Pasquale Fornaro and Angela Fratolillo, indicate Rome, but she herself, in Le impessioni di un’automobilista, claims she was born in G…
