Giacoma Limentani was born in Rome in 1927. She studied at the Pistelli primary and the Mamiani secondary schools until the 1938 Racial Laws barred her from attending state institutions and she moved to the newly created school for Jewish children. After the Second World War, she worked for many years as a screenwriter and translator, beginning her career as an author in 1967. Her first text, In contumacia [In absentia], tells of the sexual violence and humiliation suffered by the twelve-year-old girl Mina.
