Diego Guillén de Ávila (c.1455 – c.1510) was a Spanish poet and translator active during the reign of the Catholic Monarchs. Son to poet Pero Guillén de Segovia (1413-c.1475), this is, in fact, one of the few clues that shed light onto the unknown life of the author. There are contradicting studies regarding when and where Guillén de Ávila was born. Nevertheless, most of them concur that he was born around the second half of the 15th century. As for his birthplace, some critics believe that the de Ávila in his signature is an irrefutable proof that he was born in this city.
