Mimi Albert is a short story writer, novelist, memoirist, critic, journalist, and teacher. Though relatively unknown as a Beat writer, Albert – included in Jim Burns’s “Beat Women” (1993) and Richard Peabody’s A Different Beat: Writings by Women of the Beat Generation (1997) – came of age in New York City during what Beat scholars consider the third generation of women Beat writers, and much of her writing depicts the postwar period’s social and cultural rebellion with incisive attention.
