Mourid Barghouti is a foremost Palestinian poet and memoirist. He was born on the 8th of July of 1944 in Deir Ghassanah, a village that forms part of the Bani Zaid string of villages, situated in the vicinity of the city of Ramallah on the West Bank of the Jordan River, inside the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT). He is the author of numerous volumes of poetry, including the collection A Small Sun (2003) and Midnight and Other Poems (Arc, 2008), a collection that includes his celebrated, eponymous epic poem “Midnight”.
