Georges Feydeau was born in Paris on 8 December 1862. His mother, Léocadie Bogaslawa Zelewska, was a beautiful woman of Polish extraction, while his father, Ernest Feydeau (1821-1873), was at the time a famous novelist. However, Georges Feydeau was also reputed to be a son of Napoleon III or of the Duc de Morny. In 1866, his parents gave him a sister, Valentine, who died in 1942. Georges Feydeau, a very advanced child, wrote his first play at the age of seven. During the Franco-Prussian War (1870), Feydeau's family left Paris for Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pas-de-Calais), returning in March 1871, and then left again to go to Homburg (Germany).
