Richard Wagamese (the Wabaseemoong First Nation) is one of the best known Canadian Native writers. Primarily a prose writer, he has published texts in a number of genres: novels, memoirs, and newspaper columns. He is also a storyteller and public speaker, television broadcaster, television and documentary producer. While Wagamese is interested in the exploration of his Ojibway heritage, the position of the First Nations within Canada, and the interactions between Native and immigrant cultures in Canada, he focuses in his texts and interviews on the issue of what it means to be human in the complex, contemporary world.
