Born on July 2, 1950, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Lee Maracle spent her young adulthood moving among Vancouver, Toronto, and the United States, participating in the hippie, Black panther, and Red Power “counter cultures”. The insights into the politics of colonialism, racism, gender, poverty, and class afforded through her connection with and resistance to these groups politicized Maracle and continue to influence her life and work. Lee Maracle is a member of the Sto:loh First Nation. She attended Simon Fraser University and has been a visiting professor and internationally sought-after public lecturer.
