George Bowering is a prolific Canadian poet, fiction writer, playwright, essayist, literary critic, biographer, historian and editor. Having published well over eighty books, the respected writer remains one of the pranksters of Canadian literature, tirelessly experimenting and resisting critical definitions. While his varied oeuvre resists easy generalisations, both his fiction and poetry tend to be inspired by postmodernism, and Bowering himself is often treated as one of the most influential Canadian practitioners, theorists and supporters of postmodern writing.
