One of the most widely studied novelists and short story writers of the late twentieth century, Angela Carter also wrote scripts, poems, and newspaper articles that have been gathered in collected editions, testifying both to her prolific production over the course of her twenty-six-year writing career as well as to the unabated interest in a writer who has become an icon. In his 2016 biography of Carter, Edmund Gordon lamented the posthumous canonization of the writer, that occurred upon her early death from cancer in 1992 at the age of fifty-one.
