F.R. (Francis Reginald) Scott was a Canadian poet, academic, and legal expert. He was instrumental in founding the C.C.F., Canada’s first democratic-socialist party, and was involved in the writing, editing, and publication of numerous important modern Canadian poetic works and little magazines including the McGill Fortnightly Review (1925-27), a publication which is often associated with the advent of modernism in Canada. Scott was made a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 1947 and was twice awarded the Governor General’s Award for his writing (in 1977 and 1981). Although he was a
