Owen Marshall Jones, who writes as Owen Marshall, is widely acknowledged as one of New Zealand’s finest living short story writers, in the company of, notably, Patricia Grace, Witi Ihimaera and Dame Fiona Kidman. Like them, he is also a novelist, although (unlike them) his métier is the short story. More recently he has also produced four collections of poetry. He has written of his evolution as an author in Tunes for Bears to Dance to: The Shaping of a New Zealand Writer (2014), available as an e-book, and discussed it in various interviews.
