Canadian writer and literary critic Henry Kreisel belongs to the group of Jewish immigrants to Canada in the Second World War who entered as so-called “enemy aliens”, sent via the United Kingdom in 1941. In spite of having learned English only in his teens, he became the writer of two highly acclaimed novels and a collection of short stories in English, and was one of the first writers to bring representations of immigrant experience to the Canadian literary landscape.
