Razia Sultana Khan is a Bangladeshi academic, writer, and artist. Khan was born on 1 January 1950 in Dhaka, East Pakistan. Her father, Mr. Altaf Hussain Khan, was in the Foreign Service of Pakistan, so Khan spent her childhood and formative years in the many countries her father was stationed in. In 1971, during the War of Liberation, Mr. Khan was posted in Turkey. A Bengali, he no longer felt allegiance to Pakistan and decided he could not continue to serve in the Pakistan Embassy. So, with his family, Mr. Khan escaped from Istanbul. The family were eventually able to reach Dhaka in spring 1972.
