No other early 20^th century American writer was as prolific or as popular as Zane Grey. Between 1903 and his death in 1939 he wrote and published fifty-six western romances, thirteen outdoor books, seven juvenile stories, three historical novels set in the Ohio River area during the American Revolution, a novel of Tahiti, another of Australia, one east coast novel, nine fishing books, and short stories and articles collected in eighteen anthologies. His novels have been made into one hundred and thirteen motion pictures. Over one hundred and thirty million copies of his novels have been sold, and movies made from his stories have been remade as many as four times.
