Shirley Ann Grau is an extremely private person and she believes, like other writers, that one should not read her fiction in relation to her life. She will therefore gladly discuss her novels and inspirations but will not, or very reluctantly, be self-reflexive: “I am not the least introspective. I am not the least interested in ME. Only in the life around me” (personal correspondence).
Grau was born on July 9, 1929 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
