The literary work of Miguel Angel Asturias offers an immensely rich depiction of the world of indigenous people and their origins. The feeling of loss and desolation in which these people had lived throughout the centuries made Asturias committed to giving them voice and presence, not only in Latin America but also in the whole world. Once his work became renowned, he tirelessly visited many countries to give lectures and conferences on the wonders of pre-Columbian culture, notably speaking in Spain, England, Germany, Hungry, Sweden, Switzerland, Jerusalem and Senegal.
