Despite many efforts by recent scholarship to shed more light on late medieval German literature, many dark spots still block our full understanding or appreciation. One of those dark spots proves to be the poet Michel Beheim, who left behind a huge body of texts that met with fairly little response at his time and that are also little read and studied to this day. However, recent years have witnessed the publication of English translations of some of his works (Ogier 2022), and future research might assist us in gaining a better appreciation of Beheim’s literary accomplishments.
